Elastomer mounts are used in the automotive industry to ensure a high degree of ride comfort within the cabin. They reduce vibration to the car body by absorbing the static and dynamic forces generated by the engine. Vibration transmission characteristics of the mounts, in particular the dynamic stiffness, are of key importance to noise and vibration engineers. There is an increasing demand, especially in hybrid and electric vehicles, for higher test frequencies when designing the acoustic characteristics.
Our m+p HFDST-3000-E vibration test rig allows to measure the dynamic stiffness and the loss factor of elastomer mounts in a frequency range up to 3,000 Hz. The purpose of this high-frequency test rig is to characterize a wide range of different engine mounts, chassis mounts, suspension bushes, vibration absorbers, etc. dynamically under static preload. It is designed to analyze the stiffness of the specimen in the range of 250 to 50,000 N/mm for frequencies from 50 to 3,000 Hz.
The concept of the m+p HFDST-3000-E is based on an electrodynamic shaker, which can be operated in different test modes defined in m+p VibControl vibration control software. The test specimen is mounted between the shaker and a seismic mass, which can be lowered to apply a static preload from 0 to 5,000 N. When running a predefined test, m+p VibControl continuously optimizes and controls the acceleration of the shaker, inducing dynamic loading on the elastomer within the selected frequency range. By measuring the input acceleration below the specimen and the resulting dynamic reaction force above the specimen, the dynamic transfer stiffness is calculated.
The supplied vibration control system consists of the m+p VibControl software and the m+p VibRunner acquisition hardware featuring, for example, 16 input channels. m+p VibControl vibration controllers are used by many of the leading environmental test laboratories throughout the world. They offer a multitude of measurement and analysis possibilities, including features required for safe operation, control and monitoring of the test rig, as well as documentation of results. The result files can be analyzed immediately on completion of the test or used for later analysis, to generate reports or for troubleshooting tasks.
