1. Full Modal Analysis on Falcon 9/Dragon to Resupply the ISS
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) is a U.S. space transport company which is developing a family of launch vehicles and spacecraft. The company designs, tests and fabricates the majority of their components in-house.
NASA selected SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch vehicle and the free-flying, reusable Dragon spacecraft to deliver cargo to the International Space Station (ISS). The $1.6 billion contract represents a minimum of 12 flights, with an option to order additional missions for a cumulative total contract value of up to $3.1 billion.
To meet the stringent reliability requirements of its customers, SpaceX has a full quality assurance program and an exhaustive acceptance test program. For the NASA order, SpaceX selected m+p international’s SO Analyzer for full modal testing. SO Analyzer is a dynamic data acquisition, analysis and reporting system with integrated analysis across a wide range of applications from structural testing to sound quality.

Jack Connor, Dynamics Engineer, says, “When NASA picked SpaceX to re-supply the space station, we realized that we would be required to perform a significant amount of modal testing if our analysis was to meet their strict standards. Instead of farming this work out to expensive consulting companies, we decided to bring modal testing completely in house using m+p international’s SO Analyzer as the cornerstone of our testing capability. The software has enabled us to perform two full modal tests in less than two months, and we are scheduled to complete 4 more in the next two months. 2. Coda Supports Data Acquisition Hardware from Agilent
Coda is m+p international’s easy-to-use data acquisition software that delivers precise, repeatable results. Complete turnkey operation provides quicker time to test by eliminating costly application programming and long learning curves. The Coda software has extensive built-in features and tools, thus offering a functionality that was previously available only in custom packages. The intuitive GUI provides easy and fast set-up, operation and analysis, leading to high-quality results quickly. For post-test analysis, data can be exported into applications such as Microsoft Excel and MATLAB.
Coda supports a wide range of powerful LXIbus, VXIbus and USB-based instruments from renowned manufacturers – for applications ranging from a few dozen to thousands of channels.
Agilent USB data acquisition hardware
Now Coda also supports Agilent Technologies U series data acquisition hardware. Agilent’s data acquisition family gives the user the choice and flexibility to create solutions that evolve and expand to his changing measurement needs. The series includes multifunction measurement modules, simultaneous-sampling measurement modules and digital input/output (I/O) modules. These versatile, compact modules can be used standalone or plugged into a chassis. They provide high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity.
3. Network Based Licensing with Detach Option
Licensing options of the SO Analyzer for dynamic signal analysis include softcode, a hardware dongle key and now an advanced network based capability.
The new network based option provides concurrent user access anywhere on the user network with the added option of detachable licensing for portable PCs or measurement systems etc. This means that no dongle is needed for remote/portable use so increasing security and reliability whilst retaining maximum usage on a network in the office. Also detachable licenses can be obtained from the network or using simple text files so the license can be obtained or updated from anywhere in the world without a direct internet connection.
Other enhancements include comprehensive usage logging, the ability to mix and match different numbers of each software module and administrator control of logins across the network, e.g. to unload a user. Further protection has also been added to ensure a user can save critical data should the user be disconnected from the server for any reason during a session.
