Welcome to our latest Newsletter about the Vibration & Environmental test world in addition to the latest information from m+p international.
The m+p international Newsletter is circulated exclusively to test engineers and managers involved in vibration test, data acquisition and signal analysis and hopes to bring you some useful technical snippets gleaned from around the world and from around the test and measurement industry. We always look forward to your inputs, send us your views to email@example.com.
With the 4 to 16-channel VibPilot, m+p international sets a new standard for affordable performance in vibration testing and dynamic signal analysis. Using the latest DSP and analog technology VibPilot provides market leading dynamic range and outstanding real-time performance via high-speed USB interfacing. A complete multi-purpose solution using our VibControl and SO Analyzer software:
2. Upgrading the Coda Data Acquisition System at Lockheed Aeronautics
Complex Aeronautical Systems are developed by Lockheed Aeronautics in Ft Worth, Texas. Their simulation and testing labs require hundreds of simultaneous channels of various bandwidths with multiple transducers types to be captured and displayed in real time. Customized real time displays and alarms are used to manage the testing and guide troubleshooting and design evaluation.
The Vehicle System Simulator (VSS), or 'Iron Bird,' is a unique test facility at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Fort Worth, Texas. The simulator allows the F- 22's hydraulic and electrical systems and all of their associated hardware (such as actuators) and control software to be tested under simulated flight conditions while on the ground.
Such ground-based testing significantly lowers program risk by allowing flight critical systems to be tested thoroughly before the airplane actually flies. It also reduces the complexity and cost of the flight test program for the developmental aircraft. The VSS can also be used to conduct tests that would be too dangerous to attempt on a flying airplane, such as dual engine flameouts and flight control actuator failures.
Prior to first flight, the VSS was used by Chief Test Pilot Paul Metz and the Mission Control Center crew to practice the flight.
Problem: Provide extremely high channel count along with high speed data acquisition to allow engineering product performance analysis on complex systems.
Challenge: Leverage existing company resources and provide an upgrade path to future hardware with an open and constantly developing software solution with the ability to customize.
Solution: m+p Coda (Continuous Data Acquisition Software) is implemented to upgrade their existing hardware and provide enhanced capabilities and upgrade growth. Key features are listed below:
Development resources were provided to add Lockheed specific enhancements and onsite support to aid installation and training making for a successful implementation.
3. Acoustic Control and Progressive Wave Tube Testing at NASA
NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton/Virigina, has used the m+p international VibControl system for acoustic control at their progressive wave tube test facility for years. Tested spectra include uniform, two cases of pink noise, three cases of narrow-band random, a simulated launch payload bay environment for an expandable launch vehicle, and a simulated external acoustic load for the aft section of a reusable launch vehicle.
The report “Improvements to Progressive Wave Tube Performance through Closed-Loop Control” describes the acoustic control system of the Thermal Acoustic Fatigue Apparatus,
4. Iraqi Customers Visit m+p international inc.
Since the invasion of Kuwait Iraq has been closed to new technologies. With the help of the United States and their allies this is rapidly changing. Recently with the assistance of a close partner three Iraqis working for the military visited many US companies, including
