A fully booked attendance of 48 delegates was on hand
to listen to presentations from a range of education and industry
based experts.
A busy morning started with a skilfully presented introduction to
Signal Acquisition and Modal theory by Dr. Steve Rothberg of
Loughborough University, keeping the maths to a level easily
understood and leaving everyone with a solid grounding in the
basics.
This was followed by some excellent practical discussions and
demonstrations of impact hammer testing and Modal analysis by
Maurice Mergeay of m+p international, Belgium. The final morning
presentation took the delegates into the world of Modal modification
and FE comparison, again superbly presented by Rob Swindell of
Bureau Veritas UK.

After a well-earned lunch provided by the University accompanied
by much discussion of the morning presentations everyone resumed for
the afternoons look at Laboratory Test Simulation.
Again the format provided a starting point in the theory side of
simulation, particularly with a view to Unlimited Roadload/Time
Replication control, this was well constructed and presented by Raf
Mangleschots, another of m+p’s Belgian engineers.

Richard Lax, the UK sales Director, then took over with a long
look into practical applications of Roadload testing, with some
extremely valuable tips and guidance into how to edit time histories
and some of the pitfalls that must be avoided.
The final presentation of the day was by Brian Tyler of AWE
Aldermaston who stepped in literally at the last minute to replace
the previous presenter who couldn't make it from the US. Brian took
us through some of the alternative methods of vibration testing and
discussed specifications and the pros and cons of each method.
The post seminar response was great, all elements of the day
received positive feedback and the final conclusion was that the day
had been 100% successful, location, facilities, seminar content and
presentation all proving unbeatable.
Of course this has lead to many requests for further seminars, we
are planning the next one for September, the date will be confirmed
in the next couple of weeks. One additional feature of the next
seminar will be some hands on opportunities for those interested in
trying their hand at acquisition and analysis.
