2. State-of-the-Art New VXI Measurement Hardware

It's only a year since Agilent Technologies announced the sale of some of its VXI products to VXI Technology Inc. and it's not been an easy one for them. However, VXI Tech's recent announcement of major new products being available later in the year is all credit to them; it was something we had wanting from Agilent for many a long year.

Together with 24 bit ADC technology there are also new 8- and 16-channel cards that have front panel coax connectors, 102 kHz sampling and ICP with TEDS option. The cards are 100% compatible with the popular VT 1432A card. The 1432A can also be upgraded with a trade-in discount.

With these important developments, VXI Tech prove they have it in them to maintain the leading edge in analog performance, raw data throughput and signal analysis, for the very best in vibration control and signal acquisition (using m+p international VibControl and SmartOffice software of course!). And the best thing ... it doesn't cost a fortune!

3.VXIbus Consortium Released 3.0 Specification

The VXIbus Consortium is a not-for-profit corporation made up of the leading companies in the Test & Measurement Industry. Its goals are develop, support, and promote the VXIbus architecture, the most popular open standard platform for data acquisition and systems in the world today. m+p international's products support the VXI hardware platform.

The VXIbus Consortium announced the release of a new revision to the VXIbus specification that incorporates the VME64 and 2eVME protocols to dramatically increase the speed and performance options for VXI based systems. The new specification, Revision 3.0, sets the stage for a new family of products that will incorporate industry-leading data transfer rates of 160 MB/s. Extensive work was done by the consortium participants to ensure backward compatibility as well as future expansion.

Read more in a press release of our partner VXI Technology, a sponsor member of the VXIbus consortium.

4. m+p international Will Modernize a 1000-Channel Process Data Acquisition System

The E.ON Power Plant Isar 2 in Bavaria/Germany is one of the largest European power plants with a gross electric output of 1,390 megawatts. Since 1998 Isar 2 is equipped with a Coda process data acquisition system enabling the precise analysis of operating states during normal or maintenance operation. Coda offers an outstanding performance: more than 1,000 analog inputs for thermodynamic measuring values and power plant parameters, a sum data rate of 1.5 Msa/s, a circular buffer concept for gap-free data storage of more than 100 h as well as comprehensive tools for analysis and visualization.

Initially, Hewlett-Packard developed Coda which is based on a VXIbus hardware platform under the Unix operating system. m+p international inherited the responsibility for the support of Coda systems as well as the further development and product marketing from Hewlett-Packard. The newly developed SmartCoda_rtm which we will install at Isar 2 bases on the Windows operating system, but is still equipped with a real-time kernel realized under Linux. This modernization provides not only the state-of-the-art operating functions of a Windows user interface, but will also ensure high operation safety and high performance of the continuous data acquisition by the real-time operating system which is installed on a separate data server - independently of the interactive user actions.

Another special advantage for our customer:
The Unix computer hardware will be replaced by much more powerful PCs at a fraction of the inital costs. The VXIbus measuring data acquisition system, however, fully meets today's performance and reliability requirements of the power plant operator and will remain in operation. Considerable expenses for the purchase of a new measuring system as well as for the new cabeling of the over 1,000 measuring cabels are not necessary.
