16 December 2008 Welcome to our latest Newsletter about the Vibration & Environmental test world in addition to the latest information from m+p international. The m+p international Newsletter is circulated exclusively to test engineers and managers involved in vibration test, data acquisition and signal analysis and hopes to bring you some useful technical snippets gleaned from around the world and from around the test and measurement industry. We always look forward to your inputs, send us your views to newsletter@mpihome.com.
1. Honorary Doctorate Awarded to Prof. Mahrenholtz Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr.-Ing. E. h. mult. Dr. h. c. Oskar Mahrenholtz, co-founder and shareholder of m+p international, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bremen in Germany on October 20, 2008. The award was made in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements, his extraordinary commitment for the German scientific landscape and his long-year intensive support of the University of Bremen.
He was the Director of the Institute of Applied Mechanics at the University of Hannover and of the Institute of Ocean Engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology and was visiting professor at numerous universities in India, Japan, Canada and Belgium. Oskar Mahrenholtz brought his experience and expertise into many scientific organizations and was a delegate of the Federal Republic of Germany to the NATO Science Committee. Another focus of his teaching and research activities was the close cooperation with the industry. In 1980 he founded the MAHRENOLTZ + PARTNER engineering company, the predecessor of All m+p international shareholders, executives and employees congratulate Oskar Mahrenholtz on this great award and wish him all the best, luck and good health. 2. Upgrades to Acoustic Control Systems Lockheed Martin and Northrup Grumann both upgraded their older acoustic control systems with m+p international’s MS Windows based Digital Acoustic Control System. As a standard requirement in Aerospace Dynamic Acoustic Testing, both customers require true, ANSI standard based octave band control as outlined in the NASA dynamic environmental criteria technical handbook. The true octave band analysis and control is a continuous digital time domain filter technique independent of any average method and allows for quick, yet safe real-time feedback and control. m+p international has been offering for a number of years a Digital Acoustic Control System and has fine tuned the solution using valuable customer participation, making the system a perfect fit for accurate and safe reverberant chamber testing. As the system is MS Windows based all test results are readily available in post-test for full test document and export to such applications as MS Excel, MS Word, m+p international's continued dominance in the Space based dynamic testing industry has led to refinements in all Vibration and Acoustic control systems to insure testing proceeds as quickly as possible with particular emphasis on test item safety. The m+p Digital Acoustic Controller shares the familiar graphical user interface with the If you have any questions or would like to see a Digital Acoustic Control System please contact your local m+p sales office. 3. Vehicle Pass-by-Noise Testing Using GPS Technology The ever-increasing noise emission standards require the automotive industry to do complex vehicle exterior noise tests. m+p international’s GPS-based Pass-by-Noise system efficiently supports the designers when doing their testing job. One man – the driver – can perform the complete test within the test vehicle, thus saving time and money. The high-quality data is available in car analysis or can be post-processed in the lab. Please read the interesting article GPS-based pass-by-noise testing published in the last Automotive Testing International Report. 4. How to Track a Peak Using the SO Analyzer? If you use our SO Analyzer for dynamic signal analysis, the following technical tip will surely be of interest for you. It describes step by step how to label and track a peak in real time. 5. m+p international at IMAC Show Do you want to learn more about our sophisticated vibration control systems, our dynamic signal analyzers or data acquisition solutions? Then visit us at the next IMAC show: IMAC XXVII We would be pleased to see you there. 6. Thought for the Day "Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternative." – Maurice-Auguste Chevalier Well, that brings to a close this edition of the m+p international Newsletter. If there are items of info you would like to see here or if you have useful tips for the rest of the environmental test world, then please send us your pointers and we'll include them in the next edition.
