1. Coda: Data Acquisition System Supports Latest LXI Hardware

Our Coda data acquisition software enables large channel count measurements with your existing VXI hardware (e.g. the E1413 series) and allows integration and expansion using new LXI hardware. Many key engineering and process projects require simultaneous data acquisition of many hundreds and sometime thousands of channels. This can be to define specific product performance and anomalies or to document and maintain quality for process engineering. Diverse industries share this requirement from aerospace to power generation to machinery monitoring. m+p international’s Coda (Continuous Data Acquisition) can be customized for any application along with powerful and flexible hardware to meet today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.

In addition to the proven VXI frontends from VXI Technology inc., Coda also supports the new LXI- based products for sophisticated temperature, voltage and strain gage measurements:

  • The EX1000A/16A/32A/48A series is an advanced, full-featured thermocouple and voltage measurement instrument providing superior accuracy and repeatability through fully integrated signal conditioning, advanced cold junction compensation (CJC), and complete end-to-end self-calibration.
  • The 48-channel EX1629 sets a new standard of performance for stress and fatigue testing. Independent 24-bit A/D converters on each channel, extensive software selectable filtering, and independent signal conditioning paths provide exceptional accuracy and repeatability.

2. m+p Technical Services: Data Acquisition, Modal and Vibration Survey

Our technical services include performing vibration survey of sites to determine environmental factors which may affect product performance. Examples include engineering testing, CNC, dimensional testers, assembly and product quality assurance testing. Our experts can assist your staff in performing the evaluation or can completely staff the project. We can provide complete system including instrumentation.

Data acquisition system consisting of our SO Analyzer can quickly map a grid on the area to be tested, connect to the transducers and provide results in minutes. Unique ability to “tape record” by streaming the continuous time data to disk while computing processed data (peak acceleration time, spectrum, velocity, displacement, spectrum, psd, cross spectrum, frequency response function and coherence) is available online and immediately after capture to provide quick look data and aid in any additional test configurations. Ability to capture simultaneous data from multiple channels speeds the test and insures data integrity.

Animated mode shapes can be obtained from forced response measurements – impact hammer or shaker driven and also from operating data – using the ambient forces present onsite. This allows understanding of the physics of the site instead of relying on numbers and graphs. Our experienced staff can minimize onsite time while maximizing the information you can gather.

Reports can be generated that utilize our active data – plots of processed data can be cursor’ed or further processed by any viewer in Word or PowerPoint. This enables further analysis and understanding of the data by the staff or customer. This also aids when testing is repeated after installation or environment changes. Animated mode shapes can be viewed, rotated, shaded just as in the engineering program – to aid visualization. This is a huge advantage over the standard movie files of mode shapes.

Contact us to explain your requirements and we will show you an online demo of how the system works and the active reporting you can take advantage of. Your staff and customers will appreciate the value added this unique feature provides. Purchase of complete turnkey systems can aid your staff in reducing the consulting charges of outsourcing this effort and provide further cost savings to your organization.

Please check out the ActiveX functionality of the SO Analyzer:
First open the zip file to download and install the free SO Analyzer Viewer software. Then open the Word document (please, close the design mode) to see and use the active
SO Analyzer displays.

3. University of Illinois Selects New VibPilot for Vibration Control and DSA

The Linear and Nonlinear Dynamics and Vibrations Laboratory at the University of Illinois have selected the m+p international’s new multichannel vibration/acoustic controller plus analyzer – VibPilot. This unique capability of dual use of the new custom designed VibPilot 24-bit frontend includes 2 sources for DAC out and 8 input channels for both vibration control and as a noise and vibration analyzer. The primary use is to perform linear and non-linear dynamics experiments to support current research. Applications include linear and nonlinear vibrations, flutter analysis, joint mechanics, system identification, seismic vulnerability of structures, and passive and active control of structures.

Prof. Lawrence Bergman has long been a leader in providing advanced instrumentation and mentoring student careers in noise and vibration. He was instrumental in the purchase of the lab’s first 2-channel Nicolet analyzer and providing a young undergraduate in Engineering Mechanics, our current m+p Central Region Manager, Tim Copeland, with the opportunity to build the first vibration acoustics lab around the Nicolet analyzer. This experience started a young engineer along the path to many exciting noise and vibration positions as with many others students who were fortunate to study under Dr Bergman.

More information on the laboratory can be found at http://www.ae.uiuc.edu/lndvl/

This follows a trend of research/training facilities which included 6 new systems installed at the University of Cincinnati Structures and Motion Lab in 2006 and the University of Arkansas in 2007.

4. Defense Contracts: m+p inc. Featured in Local Newspaper

m+p international inc. in Verona has done business with leading aerospace and defense corporations such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing for many years. Therefore it is only logical that m+p is featured in the Verona-Cedar Grove Times article on local companies with direct and indirect military contracts.

Please read this interesting article and learn more about m+p’s business in the military sector.
