1. m+p SO Analyzer Selected for Structural Dynamics Research

Continuing our past successful collaboration with top university research laboratories,
m+p international is proud to announce multiple seats at several universities using the new
m+p 8-channel VibPilot front-end.

Customers doing structural dynamics testing have the unique ability with the SO Analyzer to utilize National Instruments or VTI Instruments E143X series front-ends along with the new VibPilot. This maximizes existing resources and gives the customer freedom to expand picking the right hardware to use with no changes in the software.

The University of Illinois, the Purdue University, the University of Connecticut and the New Mexico State University recently selected m+p SO Analyzer software together with the VibPilot front-end for structural dynamics research. Read more.


2. Astrium Selects VibPilot for Vibration Testing of TEXUS/MAXUS Sounding Rockets

In Trauen/Germany, Astrium manufactures parts of the TEXUS and MAXUS sounding rockets for microgravity research in biology, materials science and physics. Astrium operates missions with sounding rockets on a commercial basis, as prime contractor to ESA (European Space Agency) or the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). These rockets for scientific experiments under weightless conditions are launched from Esrange in northern Sweden. During the parabolic flight of the rocket, data is obtained either by telemetry or after recovery of the payload. The scientists can control the experiments directly as they are operated by means of telecommand and video streams.
Today TEXUS is the most successful and longest-lasting rocket program for microgravity research in the world.

Astrium, Trauen, operates four test stands to meet a wide range of test requirements. For vibration testing Astrium has been using m+p international’s proven VibControl shaker control system for many years. Now they replaced the existing measurement hardware by
m+p international’s VibPilot front-end with high-speed USB 2.0 interfacing. Of course, the 4/8-channel VibPilot supports all vibration tests according to MIL, ISO and other standards. It provides eight digital inputs and outputs to exchange control information with other instruments during the measurements. Functionality also includes ICP supply, TEDS support, two highly precise 24-bit analog outputs and a safety shutdown.

Nonlinear Modal Identification Techniques Reveal Nonlinearity in a Dynamics Benchmark System (Paper 198, Session 11)

This paper applies several techniques to analyze a dynamics benchmark system with controlled nonlinearity. Several features in the normal mode tuning approach are used to identify nonlinearity, which can be introduced in a controlled manner in the benchmark system. Response to impact and ring down excitations in the time domain is also gathered and post processed using Wavelet Transforms and Empirical Mode Decomposition to analyze the same dynamic structure with controlled nonlinear behavior. The result is to show how these techniques can first identify and then be used to quantity the nonlinearity. Utilizing the nonlinear dynamics benchmark system presented previously allows controlled introduction of varying degrees of nonlinearity.
