1. Release of VibControl Revision 2.10

Our VibControl products for advanced vibration testing and signal analysis from 4 to hundreds of input channels are used by many of the leading environmental test laboratories throughout the world.

Our latest VibControl Rev. 2.10 introduces a lot of new useful capabilities and enhancements to our software, a few of them are:

  • The VibControl user interface has been completely reworked and adapted to the current MS Office 200x style. This includes all major components of VibControl such as Editor, Runner, PostTest, VibUtil, Shaker Definition, Toolbar, Multiplot, etc.
  • To facilitate the management and handling of transducer information, a transducer database in MS Excel XP/2003 format has been added to VibControl.
  • VibControl Revision 2.10 supports the growing number of new sensors having TEDS functionality. This allows the user to quickly transfer a sensor’s TEDS data directly to VibEditor instead of having to enter them manually one by one. TEDS data stored in an EEPROM of the sensor include not only sensor manufacturer, type and serial number, but also key technical data, date of last calibration and installation site. This new feature is currently supported by VXI Technology’s digitizer module VT1435/1436, and will be available for the new m+p VibPilot hardware platform very soon.
  • During self-test, the coherence is now displayed both as a plot and in the self-test table.
  • In order to facilitate the file search in VibPostTest, a selection window has been added where users are able to quickly define search criteria like file date and file name.
  • Sine dwell peak table import to VibEditor.
  • Active notch channels included in online test log.
  • Enhanced report generator offers selection options for test definition, self-check results, test log and various measurements.
  • Activation of narrowbands displayed in test log.

In addition to the previously supported OROS and VXI Technology measurement hardware, VibControl Revision 2.10 supports our new, compact 4- or 8-channel VibPilot hardware platform and the high-channel count vibration control and data acquisition solutions based on VXIbus hardware.

This software update is of course free to all our VibControl customers with current maintenance contracts.

2. m+p international’s Pass-by-Noise System in Operation at Cooper Tire

Cooper Tire operates several test tracks across the USA to aid their advanced noise and vibration design and development. They also provide services to outside companies in key areas such as pass-by-noise testing. Cooper Tire chose m+p international’s unique GPS based Pass-by-Noise (PBN) solution.

Gary Welch, operator of the m+p Pass-by-noise system at Cooper Tire

Watch the system in operation in this short movie, a simple space bar arms the system for each run, audible tone informs the operator system is ready so he can focus on the in-vehicle speed display as he approaches the noise pad, entry trigger and exit trigger tones tell the operator when exactly the entry and exit happen, and a complete display indicates all parameters needed to accept or reject the run. Instantly re-armed and ready to capture more data along with the GPS ability to automatically sense reverse runs allows constant driving with no downtime to look into the vehicle. The operator in the movie, Gary Welch, says: “The simple operation and quick turnaround ability enables us to get more testing done more quickly than any other system.” Test Track director, Carson Miller explains, “We looked at every system on the market for our application- m+p’s GPS triggering, customization and single button export to our result format was unmatched. Their superb technical support was the key to getting us up and running quickly as well as adding new features to streamline our process.”

This single person operated system is the only currently available PBN solution which does not require the old optical triggers and radar units. Optical triggers and radar prevents flexible setup and have many mechanical limitations. Often various size vehicles and different tests require moving the trigger point. m+p international’s PBN solution allows this in seconds and also enable audible tones and indicators to help the operator adjust the throttle position for the on and off points - allowing quick tuning and repeatable results.

The latest ISO 362 standard Reg. 51 which adds significant new measurement requirements over and above the old procedures has been implemented along side the existing 1998 standard. Software customization allows identification of the gear and run to aid the complex Reg. 51 measurement gathering. This results in getting more testing completed and quickly gathering both the 1998 method and the latest method as is required until the new method is fully adopted. This advanced solution allows Cooper Tire to maintain their existing large turnaround distances - while enabling immediate results processing and troubleshooting.

Other custom features include easy calibration and storage of results to provide certification as per the new standard, gathering track surface temperature along with all weather variables for each run, and simple single button export into existing Microsoft Excel results worksheets, or to standard results printouts with provided customizable templates. The system - based on our SO Analyzer software for dynamic signal analysis - consists of two complete data acquisition systems which can be used on other projects together or independently, thus multiplying the applications for this unique solution to your other NVH, rotating, modal, acoustics testing.

3. Astrium, Europe’s No. 1 in Aerospace, Uses m+p international’s High-Channel Count Vibration Control & Data Acquisition System

m+p international recently installed a 128-channel vibration control and data acquisition system at Astrium near Munich which has been our customer for many years. The VibExec system is based on m+p’s proven VibControl software and on powerful, highly precise VXIbus measurerement hardware made by Bustec. Up to 384 input channels can be integrated into a single 13-slot VXIbus mainframe, with 32 fully differential input channels per VXI slot. All channels are available as control, watchdog and/or measurement channels for vibration testing tasks. VibExec supports all kinds of sine, random and shock tests as well as transient capture applications, e.g. to acquire pyroshocks; all these tests are fully compliant with ISO, DIN, MIL-STD 810 and many other standards. The 24-bit sigma-delta A/D converters featuring a sampling rate of 108 or 216 kSamples/sec per channel provide ICP© and voltage signal conditioning as well as TEDS support.

For continuous time domain recording the data is directly stored on two 250 GB hard disks. VibExec records this data at a constant bandwidth which is equal to or higher than the control frequency range. By using the hard disks in a parallel way, there are higher transfer rates possible than those of the single drives - and even with a higher security.

Vibration control and simultaneous gap-free data recording in one system ensure a high test efficiency and minimise the equipment for high-channel count testing.

Please read our 4-page VibExec Brochure for technical details.

4. VibUtil Supports Another National Instruments Digital I/O Device

With the VibUtil module, VibControl offers a versatile tool for automated vibration testing and combined environmental testing. VibUtil easily combines individual vibration tests of identical or different test modes in any complexity of nested loops.

VibUtil can be extended to include eight digital input channels and eight digital output channels which provide links to external equipment such as environmental chambers for combined testing. This so-called Advanced VibUtil function now also supports the National Instruments USB-6525 digital I/O device with eight normally open solid-state relay outputs.

Please read more in our VibUtil Product Information Sheet.

5. Thought for the Day

"If A equals success, then the formula is A equals X plus Y plus Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut." – Albert Einstein
